PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS

CUTTELOTA  2ND GENERATION DOTSPEN

Used for Gaby's new car themed collection, this pen is an essential for any pointillism artist! It is an automatic black ink pen, that is rechargeable and whose ink is waterproof.

Compared to the 1st generation Dotspen, the 2nd generation hold its charge for a longer amount of time and has a higher quality ink. It comes with a charging cable and 3 replacement ink cartridges. Colored ink cartridges and additional black ink cartridges are also available for this model!

CARAN D'ACHE SUPRACOLOR SOFT AQUARELLE PENCIL SET

Featured in most of Gaby's watercolor process videos, this set of colored pencils are a total game changer! These colored pencils are water-soluble, which means when used with water, they turn to watercolor paint.

This exact set of 30 was actually Gaby's mom’s when she went to art school in 1979 and are no longer available, but Caran d'Ache makes a newer version of them in sizes ranging from 12-120 pencils. They are one of Gaby's favorite, watercolors supplies because they are so easy to use and pretty much mess free; and the fact that they’re still usable really speaking to how high quality they are! You can use them in a variety of ways, but her favorite is rubbing a wet paintbrush to the pencil to activate the paint!

OIL PAINT

ABOUT THE MEDIUM

Oil Paint is a slow-drying paint that consists of crushed pigments typically mixed with refined linseed oil. Due to its traditionally thick consistency and its slow-drying nature, artists are able to work on a painting for a length of time spanning from several days to months, depending on the thickness of the paint. Prior to mixing their pigments with linseed oil, early master painters used egg yolks as their mixing medium. Some famous and influential oil painters include Leonardo Da Vinci, Diego Velázquez, Johannes Vermeer, and Claude Monet.

WATERCOLOR PAINT

ABOUT THE MEDIUM

Watercolor Paint is a water-soluble medium typically painted on paper, opposed to canvas like other mediums. This medium is semi-transparent, and has a naturally luminous and free-flowing effect; making it the perfect medium to paint scenery and reflective subjects. Some famous and influential watercolor painters include Winslow Homer, John Singer Sargent, and J.M.W. Turner.

PAINTBRUSHES & OTHER TOOLS

ABOUT

An artist's tools can often make or break their artistic process and finished pieces! I like to use a variety of paintbrushes and tools.

Paintbrushes:
Sable brushes are natural hair brushes made from the hair of Sable animals (in the weasel family), known for being very soft. Synthetic brushes are man made (often a form of plastic) and have a stiff or soft feel.

Other Tools:
Palette Knives are used to mix amounts of paint to avoid excess paint getting stuck in the paintbrush bristles. A Glass Palette is a scrapable and reusable paint palette, when keep inside of a Palette Tupperware, oil paints are able to stay wet and usable for a longer period of time than other storing methods. I prefer this method because it wastes less paint and materials than using the palette paper and plastic wrap method! The Glass Palette Scraper is a blade used to remove dried paint from the palette to scrap it clean. The Brush Cleaning Tank is a jar with a coil inside of it; when filled with Turpenoid or Gamsol, the coil separates the paint sediment from the clean liquid, cleaning the paintbrushes. When oil painting brushes aren't cleaned properly the oil will harden the bristles overtime. Hardened Paintbrush Cleaner is a chemical used to soak hardened brushes and dissolve the built up oil and paint sediment, restoring the brushes.

DRAWING

ABOUT THE MEDIUM

Drawing is a technique used to create images on paper, traditionally done using graphite pencils or charcoal; used to document scenes or objects around the artist. This technique can be used as preparation for a painting or as a finished work on its own. Drawing is not limited to pencils and charcoals, as artists now use a variety of tools including ink pens, alcohol or water based markers and paint pens. Although sketch paper is ok to use when drawing with pencils or charcoal, I prefer using multi-media paper as markers and pens typically bleed through due to its thickness.
